The first task you need to do for your soccer tryout is established criteria to evaluate the players. There are two sets of standards we are going to judge the players. The first will be an evaluation of the member as a soccer player, athlete, and character. The second will be an evaluation of the player at their position and how well they fit into the sample of team you are trying to create. Planning and moving soccer tryout is a challenging task for too the most experienced soccer coaches. Coaches will usually only have one or two sessions with the new group of athletes trying out before choosing the team. That’s why it’s incredibly necessary to have live soccer tryout drills that will permit you to evaluate the skills and talents of all players trying out in a small period.  How the drill works:

Players play in a 1-on-1 game to gates to examine their attacking and defending skills.

Purpose:

Evaluate athletes’ ability to defend attackers in open area. Athletes are asked to close down area quickly and then keep the attackers from getting past them. Athletes can showcase their attacking and defending abilities.

Setup:

  • Mark a park 20×20 yards with cones. On opposed corners, make a door with two cones. The new two edges will have just a single cone.
  • Choose a corner with a barrier, on each side of the gate, along with the sideline, place a different colored gate 10-12 yards away. These will be the scoring doors and should be 3-4 yards broad.
  • Divide the athletes into two groups. Have one group beginning as the defenders behind the gateway that located nearby to the scoring doors. The other group will start as the defender and start in the back of the turning door that opposite from the defenders.
  • The whole of the balls plays with the defenders.
  • The first athlete in each line starts between their entrance. The defender begins with the ball at their feet. The resting members behind them should stand to the side of the door.
  • If there are more than twelve athletes in the exercise, make another setup so that athletes can get more repetitions.
  • Choose the figure of rounds and time deadline for every shot. Athletes should play as a defender at least double for 4-5 minutes. Play more rounds and time as required.

Instructions:

  • The activity starts with the defender giving the soccer ball to the attacker on the opposite corner of the square. The pass should be on the area and to the attacker’s feet.
  • The attacker gets the pass as the defender runs forward to close down the attacker’s place.
  • The attacker tries to hit the defender and dribble through one of the three available gates. The two barriers to either side of the attacker deserve one point while the gate the defender began on is worth three points.
  • The protector tries to stop the attacker from scoring on any of the three gates. The defender can score their points by getting the ball from the attacker and dribbling through the attacker’s starting gate.
  • If the ball moves out-of-bounds at any end, for any reason, the turn is over, and neither athlete has scored points.
  • The next round can start as soon as a player has scored, or the ball goes out-of-bounds. Athletes return to their primary lines after their turn.
  • Athletes keep track of their points. The athlete with the most points after every round declared the winner of the series!
  • After each round, athletes should switch lines/roles so they can showcase both their attacking and defending skills.
  • Make sure the athletes resting do not stand in the way of any gate as athletes will be trying to dribble through them at high speeds and could cause crashes.
  • Play sufficient rounds that every player defends for at least two shots. Supporting is the main focus of this activity.

Variations:

Size – Transfer the dimensions of the activity to fit the quality and athleticism of the athletes. If the features are too easy for the attackers or defenders, adjust accordingly.

Coaching Points:

  • Explain the defenders to close down the attacker’s location as quickly as they can and then come on balance.
  • Suggest the attackers be inventive and decisive with their changes of direction!
  • Teach the defenders to turn their knees and time their tackles, so they are not caught reaching for the ball.
  • Challenge the defenders to get the ball every time and score points on the attackers!
  • Encourage the attackers to use fakes, change of speed, and movements to get past the defenders and score!
