How to get prepared for high school soccer tryouts

Trying out for the high school soccer team can describe a transition from playing soccer for fun to concentrating on the competitive aspects of the game. High school soccer players must be more disciplined and mentally focused than their junior counterparts. Soccer tryout preparation should start at least three months before tryouts themselves — during the summer if you have fall tryouts. Step 1

Talk to your high school coach the summer or term before soccer tryouts. Several coaches have a yearlong conditioning program or recommendations for training that can help you prepare for tryouts.

Step 2

Practice of soccer drills at least three times per week for within 15 and 30 minutes. It will help you set your technique with the ball and get a better grip on some of the fundamentals required to succeed in high school soccer. Your session should include the following skills: ball striking by hitting a ball against the wall, dribbling with alternating feet, juggling the ball with alternating feet and kicking the ball as high as you can with command. Practice manipulating the ball on various surfaces, such as a tennis court or in your basement. Practice managing with the inside and outside of your feet.

Step 3

Do conditioning activities three times per week. You not only require a grasp of the fundamentals to play high school soccer, but you also need strength and stamina. Examples add jogging laps around the soccer field combined with strength-training exercises like situps, pushups, lunges, and squats.

Step 4

Running train one to two times per week. Running is a necessary skill for high school soccer, which can be more fast-paced than soccer matches for younger age groups. Begin with eight sprints back and forth between the goal boxes, then raise your races to 10 to 12 repetitions. As you increase in stamina, you can incorporate dribbling the ball into your sprinting workout.

Step 5

Attend any programs, clinics or workshops given for your high school soccer team. Several coaches will provide a one-week clinic before tryouts that help you fully understand the way of play, skills, and drills that you will find during tryouts.
