Driving School

This practice-based on regular driving routes. Either you have players form a line on or sideline, facing the opposing sideline, with a lot of space between each player. Give per player a ball and call out loud spoken instructions such as”left turn,” “right turn,” “drive forward,” “traffic jam” and “head-on collision.” When you say “traffic jam,” the players hold the ball and tap either foot on top of the ball unless you give another command. When you say “head-on collision,” the players hold the ball, receive on their knees and hands and hit their heads on top of the ball until you give more instructions. Continue like this for 30 to 60 seconds, let your players rest briefly, and then repeat the practice multiple times. Allow the children to move as quickly or slowly as they want but encourage them to move freely enough to control the ball.

Tiger Ball

This training introduces U4 soccer players to the concepts of passing and playing defense while teaching them to give the ball and work together as a team. Put four cones in a square, 5 yards apart. Have an aggressive player stand at each cone and a defensive player in the center of the square. Give a ball to 1 of the offensive players. The offensive players frequently pass the ball around the square to their teammates. They are trying to keep the ball away from the defensive player for 30 seconds. The defensive player tries to catch the ball before the time expires. The defensive player switches with an offensive player following every 30-second period. At least five times they have to play, giving each player the opportunity to play defense once. Have the offensive players drill passing the ball around the square without a defender if the practice seems too tricky.

Shooting Drill

This training teaches toddlers to kick the ball correctly by repeated action kicking the ball into an empty net. Have up to 5 players form a line about 5 yards away from a target point and give each player a shot. The first player hits the ball into the net, runs to recover it and then moves to the back of the line. If she misses, she tries again until she succeeds before the second player gets his turn. Cycle through the line many times, encouraging and praising each player’s work. Instruct the players to support their teammates as well. You can play a match by counting how multiple goals they can make in a line or within a defined amount of time if wanted.
